If you are looking for the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of Seoul, grabbing a bike and heading east toward Dumulmeori (Yangpyeong) is the ultimate weekend adventure. This route offers a mix of urban skylines, serene river views, and a legendary snack waiting at the finish line.
Start your journey at Banpo Hangang Park, famous for its fountain. Heading east, you’ll pass through iconic spots like Ttukseom and the Jamsil Olympic Stadium. The path is wide and perfectly paved, making for a smooth warm-up.
As you pass Hanam and head toward Paldang, you will encounter a section local riders call the “Room of Spirit and Time” (정신의 방).
Why the name? It’s a seemingly endless, perfectly straight path along the embankment. With no turns and a repetitive landscape, it feels like time has slowed down and you’re pedaling in a vacuum! It’s a great place to put your head down, find your rhythm, and test your mental endurance.
Once you cross into the Namyangju/Paldang area, the scenery changes beautifully. You’ll ride through old train tunnels that have been converted into bike paths—complete with cool air and LED lights. It feels like riding through a movie set!
“Dumulmeori” literally means “the head of two waters,” where the Bukhangang and Namhangang Rivers meet.
One of the most exhilarating parts of this journey is crossing the Yangsu Railway Bridge (양수철교). This old railway bridge has been repurposed specifically for cyclists and pedestrians.
Just a short detour after crossing the bridge, you’ll find the Water Garden (물의 정원). If Dumulmeori is about famous snacks and landmarks, the Water Garden is about pure, aesthetic relaxation.
Before you tackle the straightaway or after you’ve conquered it, there is one place every local cyclist stops at in Paldang: Myeonpo Dogung (면포도궁).
This is a legendary, retro-style open-air bakery that looks like a vintage Korean street stall. It’s the perfect place to refuel your carbs and experience a bit of Korean nostalgia.
If your legs are feeling like jelly after the 40km, don’t worry! You don’t have to ride back.
