Top Cycling Routes in Seoul (Part 10): “The Boot Course”

If you are looking for a satisfying long-distance ride near Seoul, the Janghwa Course (affectionately named the “Boot Course” due to its map shape) is a must-try. This 80km loop takes you through the heart of the city’s riverside paths and into the peaceful outskirts of Gyeonggi-do.

The Boot Course map

Well-Paved Paths: Most of the route follows dedicated cycling paths along the Jungnangcheon and Wangsukcheon streams.

Flat Terrain: Aside from a few minor inclines, the course is mostly flat, making it ideal for maintaining a steady pace.

Loop Convenience: Starting and ending at the Han River means easy access to subway stations and parking.

Headwinds: Depending on the day, you might face stiff headwinds along the Han River section.

Weekend Crowds: The Jungnangcheon section can get busy with pedestrians and casual riders on weekends.

Scenic Highlights (경치가 아름다운 곳)
The Jungnangcheon Stream (중랑천): Especially beautiful in spring with cherry blossoms and in early summer with roses.

The Wangsukcheon Nature (왕숙천): Offers a more “rural” and tranquil vibe compared to the urban Han River paths.

Han River Confluence (한강 합수부): The point where the streams meet the Han River offers a wide, majestic view of Seoul’s skyline.

Recommended Pit Stops (추천 휴식처)
Uijeongbu City (의정부): Located at the “top” of the boot. It’s the perfect place to hop off the path for a famous Budae-jjigae (Army Base Stew) lunch.

Guri Hangang Park (구리한강시민공원): A great mid-way point with convenience stores and plenty of space to stretch your legs.

Ttukseom Hangang Park (뚝섬한강공원): Ideal for a post-ride celebratory drink or “Han River Ramen.”
