Seoul is a paradise for cyclists, offering diverse paths that stretch across every corner of the city. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, following these routes will guarantee an unforgettable riding experience.
Today, we’re kicking off the series with the most famous loop in the city: The Heart Course.
The “Heart Course” gets its name because the route on the map looks remarkably like a giant heart. It is a legendary circuit among Seoul’s cycling community.
The Heart Course is a 66km loop that circles Gwanaksan Mountain. Starting from the Han River bike paths, you’ll ride through a scenic variety of waterways, including:
While most of the course is flat and follows dedicated bike paths, it requires a bit of stamina due to the distance.
Note: There is a section between Gwacheon and Indeogwon (before entering Anyang’s Haguicheon) where you must ride on regular public roads. Please stay alert and prioritize safety in this section!
If the 66km flat loop isn’t enough for you, try adding a detour to Manghaeam in Anyang. It’s a rewarding uphill climb that will definitely get your heart racing.
A 35-year-old local favorite in Gwacheon. They are famous for their deep, rich Gomtang (beef bone soup), Dogani-tang, and Yang-gomtang. If you start your ride in the morning, this is the perfect spot for a hearty, high-protein lunch to keep your legs moving.
After conquering an uphill climb and breaking a sweat, nothing beats a bowl of Mulhoe (spicy cold raw fish soup). It’s incredibly refreshing and the perfect “cool down” meal for any cyclist.
