Jeju Fantasy Bicycle Path : Day 1

What is the most beautiful cycling path in Korea? While the “Four Major Rivers” paths are famous, the Jeju Fantasy Bicycle Path is in a league of its own. After two months of planning and preparation, I finally began my long-awaited journey.

I set a 3-day, 2-night schedule to complete the island circuit. Since I was riding a road bike, the priority was to keep my gear as light and minimal as possible.

Ultra-light packing

Roundel Packing Service

One of the biggest hurdles of cycling in Jeju is transporting the bike. I used a service called Roundel, which allows you to ship your bike without fully disassembling it. It made the logistics so much smoother and kept my stress levels low.

Bike reassembled and ready to roll!

The Jeju Fantasy Bicycle Path (Total: 234km) Yongduam – Iho Tewoo – Aewol – Sinchang Windmill Coast – Suwolbong – Moseulpo – Songaksan – Jungmun – Beophwan – Jeongbang Falls – Soesokkak – Namwon – Pyoseon – Seongsan – Gimnyeong – Hamdeok – Yongduam

After passing Yongduam, I reached Iho Tewoo Beach, famous for its red and white horse-shaped lighthouses.

The weather fluctuated between cloudy and sunny, but The tailwind made the ride so much easier.

Day 1 Eats: Octopus Bibimbap & Caffeine

Before reaching the Haegeoreum Village Park certification center, I stopped at a restaurant I’d scouted earlier: Hello Hyeopjae(안녕협재씨).

  • Menu: Stone Octopus Bibimbap
  • The Vibe: A whole octopus sits right on top! Cutting it into bite-sized pieces and mixing it with the rice was a highlight—the texture was incredibly tender and chewy.

Feeling energized by the meal and the tailwind, I stopped for a caffeine recharge at a cafe called Naloe 15(날외일오). It had a beautiful, spacious yard that captured the peaceful essence of Jeju.

Songaksan Views and a Perfect Sunset

Recharged, I headed toward today’s lodging. Along the way, I was treated to a magnificent view of Songaksan Mountain.

My base for the night was Ddoddot Jeju Backpackers. It was affordable, clean, and absolutely perfect for two guys on a cycling trip.

After a quick shower and some rest, I stepped out for dinner and was greeted by an incredible sunset. The sky was on fire with colors..

I ended the day at a small, local “Nopo” (old-school) restaurant, enjoying grilled fish and a drink.

Back at the hostel, I closed out a long, rewarding day, looking forward to what Day 2 has in store.

Tip: If you’re on a road bike, checking your tire pressure and chain condition every morning is a must!
